Nyamira residents want the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), and the Senate Oversight Fund (SOF) safeguarded in perpetuity.

The residents spoke during a public participation drive on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill No. 4 of 2025 recently.

West Mugirango MP, Stephen Mogaka and his Borabu counterpart Patrick Osero, underscored the critical importance of the proposed amendments, which aim to constitutionally protect the three kitties.

The legislators argued passionately that the funds were a lifelines for countless Kenyans.

Mogaka and Osero painted a vivid picture of the transformative impact, from new classrooms to scholarships and bursaries enabling bright but impoverished students to pursue their dreams.

Mogaka, flanked by three MCAs from his constituency, emphasized the crucial need for constitutional enshrinement to shield these vital programmes.

“The support from citizens across the nation is a powerful testament to the effectiveness of these funds,” Mogaka said.

“This amendment isn’t just about paperwork; it’s about safeguarding the progress we’ve made, ensuring that future generations reap the same benefits.”

The public participation exercise, initiated by the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC), covered all the 290 constituencies from May 5th to May 8th, 2025.

Osero, echoing Mogaka’s sentiments, highlighted the tangible impact of the NG-CDF, likening its effect to a rising tide lifting all boats.
