A committee is finalising the Government Communications Strategy and the National Communications Policy.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (SDBT), Mr. Stephen Isaboke opened a workshop for finalisation of the critical documents on Sunday.

Isaboke said that once approved, the two documents will be vital in enhancing and streamlining Government communication across all sectors.

He noted that the draft documents were earlier circulated to Ministries, Departments, & Agencies (MDAs) for feedback.

The committee is now incorporating the input during the ongoing Workshop.

“Once the policy and strategy are approved, we will come back to you communication specialists, to assist us in terms of communicating all the government wins, communicating as one government one voice, informing citizens on government services and ongoing projects, countering disinformation, misinformation and malformation,” the PS said.

He emphasized on the importance of communicating coherently while highlighting all the progressive projects the government is undertaking majorly through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

He further noted that the BETA transformative Pillars are underpinned by ICT which is an enabler.

“Within ICT, communication is the only way we can feel and get in touch with the population.”

The two key policy documents have been developed by SDBT through the Strategic Government Communications Committee.

In attendance were; the Chairperson of the Committee Prof. Vincent Machuki, Head of National Communications Center (NCC) Mr. Charles Owino, Director, Directorate of Public Communication (DPC) Ms. Monica Omoro, among other government officials.
