Prominent lawyer Danstan Omari has raised alarm over the unexplained disappearance of Hussein Abdirahman Mohamed, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), who went missing on July 8.

The officer also served as Huduma Centre Manager in Wajir County.

In a petition filed before the High Court, Omari is demanding that the state produce Hussein in court, warning that the mysterious disappearance of such a senior government official raises grave concerns about the security of all citizens.

“This is not just a disappearance. It’s a chilling message that no one is safe,” Omaritold journalists.

“If a Deputy County Commissioner can go missing in such a manner, then every Kenyan should be deeply concerned.”

According to family and colleagues, Hussein was last seen publicly on July 7 when he hosted the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Moses Ruku, and the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, at the Wajir Huduma Centre.

Later that evening, he reportedly spent time at home with his daughter.

He left his home the following morning, July 8, intending to report to work but never arrived.

His phone has remained switched off since then, and no communication has been received from him.

His whereabouts remain unknown.

The case has triggered a wave of concern across Wajir and beyond, particularly given Hussein’s status as both a high-ranking administrator and a key figure in the delivery of government services through the Huduma Centre.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), civil society organisations, and community leaders have echoed Omari’s concerns, calling on the Ministry of Interior to issue a statement and expedite efforts to locate Hussein.

Kenya has a troubled history with enforced disappearances, especially in regions affected by insecurity or counter-terrorism operations.

However, such incidents typically involve civilians or activists, not senior civil servants.
