The government is in the final stages of developing a National Communication Policy aimed at combating the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation in the digital age.
This was conveyed by Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Stephen Isaboke in a series of statements shared online on Monday.
PS Isaboke emphasized the urgency of creating a robust and modern communication framework that enhances the government’s ability to deliver accurate, timely, and trustworthy information to citizens.
“In today’s digital era, where misinformation and disinformation spread rapidly, ensuring the public has a reliable mechanism to verify information is essential,” he said.
“The National Communication Policy is vital for communicating government agenda.”
According to Isaboke, the upcoming policy will streamline communication operations across ministries and departments.
It will also strengthen communication infrastructure and improve the capabilities of government communicators nationwide.
“This policy, which is being finalised, will strengthen communication infrastructure, streamline operations and enhance the capabilities of government communicators,” he added.
“The government is fully committed to providing accurate, timely and trustworthy information to the public.”

The National Communication Policy is expected to serve as a guiding framework for public communication, especially in an era where the information ecosystem is constantly challenged by misinformation and disinformation, online propaganda, and digital manipulation.
The move comes at a time when governments around the world are grappling with the growing influence of social media and emerging technologies that allow false narratives to spread with unprecedented speed and reach.
The policy is expected to introduce professional standards, tools, and protocols for all state communicators, ensuring message clarity, coherence, and reach across all platforms.
The Ministry is in the final consultations on the policy and is expected to unveil it to the public in the coming weeks.
