A memorial service for former Parliamentarian, Catherine Nyamato will be held on Monday, 4th August 2025 as from 2pm at the National Museum of Kenya.

Nyamato, a former Chief Principal Immigration Officer and MP, leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and transformative leadership.

As the first woman nominated MP from Gusii, she shattered political glass ceilings and became a beacon of hope for generations of women leaders across the country.

Her career in public service was marked by unwavering dedication to justice and equality.

“In Parliament, she championed legislation and initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable populations, particularly women and the elderly,” an update from her family shows.

“Her outspoken stance against female genital mutilation and elder abuse earned her national recognition and respect, even in the face of cultural resistance.”

Beyond her political achievements, Nyamato was a devoted mother and matriarch.

She is survived by her children; Roselyne Kwenda, Maureen Nyamato, Dr. Ernest Nyamato, Peter Nyamato, and Judy Nyamato, who continue to uphold her values of service and integrity.

The upcoming memorial service invites Kenyans from all walks of life to celebrate a woman whose life embodied the spirit of public service and social justice.

Her passing comes at a time when the country is reflecting on the legacy of trailblazing women like Dr. Phoebe Asiyo, underscoring the urgent need to preserve and build upon the foundations laid by these icons.

As tributes pour in, Nyamato is remembered not only for her titles, but for her tireless efforts to uplift others.
