Six more golfers have secured their places in the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale following an exhilarating leg of the tournament held this past weekend at Limuru Country Club.
The event drew a strong turnout of 206 players, all competing for top honors and qualification slots in one of Kenya’s most prestigious amateur golf circuits.
Leading the field was John Kariuki, playing off scratch, who claimed the Overall Gross Men’s Winner title with a composed round of 72 gross.
Among the ladies, Nancy Wairimu, playing off a handicap of 3, delivered an equally impressive performance to take home the Overall Gross Lady Winner title with a score of 78 gross.
Wairimu’s dominance extended beyond the main leaderboard, as she also clinched the Longest Drive (Ladies) award, capping off a remarkable day on the course.
In Division 1, junior golfer Austin Gitahi, playing off a handicap of 9, emerged victorious with 39 points.
He was closely followed by Antony Thiongo, also off a 9 handicap, who posted 38 points, while Karigo Karaya, matching the same handicap, secured third place with 37 points.
The competition in this division was tight, with each player demonstrating consistency and composure under pressure.
Division II Men’s category delivered one of the day’s most thrilling finishes, with Joel Gachanja and David Choru both scoring 42 points.
Gachanja, playing off a handicap of 20, edged out Choru (handicap 14) on countback to take the top spot. Despite narrowly missing the win, Choru left a lasting impression by winning both the Longest Drive (Men) and Nearest to the Pin (Men) awards, showcasing his all-round skill and precision.
The ladies
In the Division II Ladies category, Mukami Miako (handicap 21) stood out with a solid 35 points to claim first place.
She was followed by Jenifer Mwangagi (handicap 18) and Wairimu Gakuo (handicap 17), both finishing with 34 points.
After countback, Mwangagi was awarded second place, while Gakuo settled for third.
Division III saw another junior golfer rise to the occasion. Albert Kamau, playing off a handicap of 25, posted 41 points to take the win.
He was trailed by Oscar Osambinyi (handicap 31), who scored 40 points, and Catherine Sakuti (handicap 37), who finished third with 39 points.
The division highlighted the growing depth of talent among younger players.
In the Junior category, Ryan Njuguna (handicap 13) delivered a standout performance with 40 points, earning him the Junior Winner’s title.
Meanwhile, in the Guest category, Titus Gichia (handicap 27) posted the highest score of the day with an exceptional 47 points, walking away as the top guest player.
Among NCBA staff participants, George Thirima (handicap 21) was named Staff Winner after a commendable round of 36 points.
On the ladies’ side, Patricia Ngina claimed the Nearest to the Pin (Ladies) prize, adding to the day’s list of notable achievements.
Reflecting on the event, Tirus Mwithiga, NCBA Group Director for Corporate and Investment Banking Advisory, praised the level of competition and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the sport.
“The NCBA Golf Series is a platform that brings together people from different walks of life through a shared passion for golf,” he said.
“Today’s event was a true celebration of talent, especially junior talent, with two of the main categories won by juniors.”
He went on: “At NCBA, we’re proud to support all levels of the game—from elite amateurs and promising juniors to professionals and recreational golfers. Our goal is to grow the sport while also helping our customers progress in every area of their lives.”
As the NCBA Golf Series moves into its final stretch, anticipation continues to build.
More qualifiers will be determined in upcoming legs across the East African region, promising even more excitement and competitive action before the Grand Finale.
