Kenya has been fined over Ksh.6 million following multiple safety and security breaches during the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The fine of about Ksh.6, 470,000, an equivalent of USD 50,000 was imposed by Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to the CAF Disciplinary Board, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) failed to meet essential safety protocols, prompting serious concerns about the welfare of players, officials, and fans.

The Board warned that continued non-compliance could result in Kenya’s national team matches being relocated to alternative venues.

FKF has been directed to bolster its security measures, including deploying adequate personnel around the stadium perimeter and strictly enforcing road closures on match days.

The disciplinary action against Kenya comes amid a broader crackdown by CAF on CHAN-related violations.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) was also sanctioned for breaching CAF’s Media Regulations.

Zambia failed to present its head coach at the mandatory Match Day-1 press conference ahead of their fixture against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Disciplinary Board found FAZ guilty and levied a fine of USD 5,000.

Meanwhile, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was fined USD 5,000 for inappropriate conduct by its players during the same match against Kenya.

However, half of the fine, USD 2,500, was suspended on the condition that no similar offence occurs during the remainder of CHAN 2024.

CAF has directed that all fines be paid within 60 days of notification.
