The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arraigned a Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company staff member for allegedly using a forged academic certificate to fraudulently secure employment.
Teresia Chepkemoi, a Revenue Collection Assistant at the utility firm, is accused of presenting a fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) document, purported to have been issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Investigations by EACC revealed that the certificate was forged, enabling her to gain employment at the company and subsequently draw salaries and benefits totaling Ksh 7.59 million.
Following the probe, the case was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved four charges against her.
They include fraudulent acquisition of public property, deceiving a principal, forgery, and uttering a false document contrary to provisions of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, the Penal Code, and the KNEC Act.
She was processed at the Integrity Centre Police Station before being taken to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
Chepkemoi denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh 500,000.
