Stanbic Bank has appointed Dr. Joshua Oigara as the new Regional Chief Executive (RCE) for East Africa, effective September 1, 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

Dr. Oigara, who currently serves as Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya, will retain his position while taking on the additional regional responsibilities.

He succeeds Patrick Mweheire, who concludes his five-year term as RCE on August 31, 2025.

Mweheire will, however, continue in his role as Chief Executive of Stanbic Kenya Holdings.

He will remain a senior executive within the Standard Bank Group.

In a statement, the bank’s leadership thanked Mweheire for his stewardship, noting his contribution in expanding Stanbic’s footprint and strengthening its franchise in the East African market.

A seasoned banker, Dr. Oigara joined Stanbic in December 2022 after nearly a decade as Group CEO of KCB Bank.

At KCB, he was credited with driving regional expansion, digital transformation, and SME financing.

Since taking over at Stanbic Bank Kenya, he has accelerated digital banking adoption, grown deposits and lending, and expanded the bank’s support for small businesses and sustainable finance.

The bank said Dr. Oigara’s elevation is part of its broader strategy to deepen integration across East Africa and align regional operations with the Group’s growth ambitions.

The appointment comes at a time when the lender is rolling out new digital investment products, expanding SME financing, and facilitating cross-border trade, particularly between Africa and Asia.
