Kenya’s media fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran investigative journalist Kurgat Maridany.
Maridany’s decades-long career shaped public discourse and inspired generations of reporters across the country.
Maridany, who most recently served as Editor-in-Chief of Kajiado News Update, was known for his fearless pursuit of truth and his ability to illuminate complex issues with clarity and compassion.
His editorial journey included stints at major outlets such as the BBC, Daily Nation, Standard Newspaper, Kenya Times, and The Standard, where he earned respect for his incisive reporting and unwavering integrity.
Before entering the newsroom, Maridany spent 11 years as a librarian at the Garissa Area Library.
The role that reflected his deep commitment to knowledge and public service, according to a condolence message dispatched by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) on Friday.
Colleagues often described him as intellectually curious, emotionally grounded, and profoundly dedicated to the craft of journalism.
His passing comes during a year of profound loss for Kenya’s media industry, which has seen the departure of several influential voices.
Tributes have poured in from journalists, editors, and readers alike, many recalling his mentorship, his editorial precision, and the quiet strength with which he approached even the most challenging assignments.
