West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka has defended his close collaboration with the national government, arguing that his constituency has suffered decades of neglect and urgently requires development.

Speaking at the burial of the late Prof. Josiah Biyogo Onyancha and his wife Hellen Moraa—parents to Standard Media Group journalists Edwin Nyarangi and DJ Darius—Mogaka emphasized that his priority is delivering tangible projects such as roads, infrastructure, and essential services to his constituents.

Addressing criticism over his frequent visits to State House, Mogaka clarified that the venue is a public institution, not a private residence.

“We go to State House because it is the seat of government, built by taxpayers. It is our right,” he said.

“Let the truth be told; if Omogusii is to benefit, we must engage with the government of the day.”

He urged Gusii residents to evaluate leaders based on their actions rather than hearsay, especially as the 2027 elections approach.

“Judge leaders by their deeds. In 2027, choose development, not stories,” Mogaka added.

The funeral, held in Ritembu Village, drew a large crowd and was attended by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri, and several journalists and editors.

The event also served as a platform for political messaging, with Arati and Okenyuri calling for unity and collective focus on regional progress.

Prof. Onyancha and Moraa tragically lost their lives in a road accident earlier this month, a loss that has been widely mourned across the country.
