A parliamentary committee overseeing Constituency Development Funds (CDF) has launched an investigation into suspected financial mismanagement in the construction of Suneka Police Station.

Led by Committee Chairperson Gideon Munyungi, members visited the project site following complaints from local residents about irregularities in the use of funds.

Preliminary findings indicate that approximately KSh 3.6 million remains unaccounted for.

“We have heard from witnesses and reviewed the available evidence. It’s evident there are serious gaps in the financial oversight of this project,” Munyungi said.

“We will not allow any Project Management Committee to tarnish the reputation of the CDF.”

He emphasized the transformative impact of CDF initiatives across Kenya and warned that those found responsible would face stern action.

Munyungi also addressed recent media reports alleging that the Auditor General had flagged a KSh 4.1 billion loss in CDF accounts.

He noted that the audit queries pertained to bursary documentation, not missing funds.

According to him, bursary cheques are issued directly to students and paid to schools, making it impractical for CDF offices to retain receipts.

The committee has summoned officials from the CDF board, local administrators, and representatives from the Auditor General’s office to provide further clarification.
