A delegation from Safaricom PLC met with the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Stephen Isaboke on Tuesday, to strengthen collaboration on Kenya’s digital transformation.
The meeting, held at the PS’s office, underscored a shared commitment to driving innovation and expanding connectivity across the country.
PS Isaboke lauded Safaricom for its role in spearheading innovations in health, agriculture, technology and communication.
He noted that these initiatives have significantly improved the quality of life for Kenyans.
“The Government is dedicated to creating an enabling environment for the private sector to flourish,” he said.
“The growth of companies like Safaricom not only strengthens our economy but also creates opportunities for youth employment.”
The PS added that the success of such business entities directly contributes to vision for a prosperous and connected Kenya.
Safaricom executives assured the government of their continued support in delivering on national digitisation goals.
Franklin Okata, Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer and head of the Safaricom delegation, said the company is evolving from a telco to a tech-co and is committed to investing in the government’s ambitious digital agenda.
Fred Waithaka, Safaricom’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, explained how the company is working with different government agencies, including the Judiciary, to support digitisation.
“We are actively engaged in capacity-building programmes for judicial officers to better understand how technology works as we support their digitisation journey,” Waithaka said.
The Safaricom team also included Bernard Muteti, Director of Enterprise Solutions, and Mpoi Nkhasi, Senior Manager for Regulatory and Public Policy.
The Government currently owns a 35 percent stake in Safaricom, making it one of the company’s largest shareholders.
