Nyamira County has boosted healthcare delivery with the procurement of new equipment for the Nyamira County Referral Hospital.

The consignment was received on Tuesday by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Dr. Donald Mogoi on behalf of Governor Amos Nyaribo.

It included modern maternity beds, general ward beds, wheelchairs, patients’ uniforms, bed sheets and blankets.

Governor Nyaribo, in a speech read by Dr. Mogoi, said his administration has also sunk a borehole at the facility to provide clean and reliable water for patients and staff, ending years of shortages.

He noted that the high-tech delivery beds will enhance maternal care and reduce infant and maternal mortality rates.

“Among these, one is a hydraulic bed and three are electrical beds. This modern equipment is designed to provide better support for our mothers during delivery, reduce the physical strain on our healthcare providers, and ultimately make childbirth safer and more comfortable in our facility,” said the Governor.

The consignment includes 150 general ward beds, 1,200 blankets, 1,500 uniforms and 1,500 bedsheets.

The uniforms are color-coded by ward to make patient monitoring easier and improve hospital efficiency.

“This is not just about aesthetics,” Governor Nyaribo said.

“It is a critical tool for enhancing hospital efficiency, helping staff and patients navigate wards more easily, and strengthening the overall management of patient care.”

The Governor added that the additional beds will ease congestion in the general wards, ensuring patients are admitted in a more comfortable and less crowded environment.

He emphasized that his administration remains steadfast in improving both the dignity and quality of healthcare for Nyamira residents.

“We are investing not just in infrastructure and equipment, but in the dignity, health, and well-being of every single resident,” he said.

“These investments are a testament to our commitment to transform Nyamira County Referral Hospital into a centre of excellence that all of us can be proud of.”
