Kenya has welcomed a joint statement by the Quad — comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States — that seeks to restore peace and security in Sudan.

A statement by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said this was a timely and necessary step toward resolving the ongoing conflict.

Kenya described the Quad meeting as a “positive initiative that should be embraced by all parties to the conflict in Sudan.”

The statement stressed that the crisis calls for “concerted and collective efforts, at the national, regional, and global levels, that can contribute to a peaceful resolution.”

Reaffirming its long-standing position, Kenya reiterated the need for unity in international efforts.

“Kenya reaffirms its call for a unified and coordinated response from IGAD, the African Union, the United Nations, the Arab League, and the broader international community in support of Sudan,” the statement read.

The government also emphasized that no military solution can resolve the Sudanese crisis.

“We emphasize the primacy of political solutions and continue to advocate for peaceful resolution of conflicts,” the statement read.

“Accordingly, there is an urgent need to advance a negotiated settlement, with the active participation of both Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).”

Kenya further called for the respect of Sudan’s sovereignty and rejected attempts to fragment the country.

“Kenya firmly rejects any attempts to balkanize or split sovereign states, and reiterates its solid support for a unified Sudan for the benefit of its people,” the government said.

The statement also highlighted concerns about external interference and extremist groups exacerbating the conflict.

“Kenya expresses grave concern over the role of extremist groups in fueling the crisis in Sudan and contributing to regional instability,” the statement read.

“Kenya further reiterates its call for an end to external military support as a critical step toward resolving the conflict.”

On the humanitarian front, Nairobi underlined the urgency of aid delivery.

“Kenya remains committed to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian supplies through its territory to support the people of Sudan,” the statement affirmed.

Backing the Quad’s proposals for transition, Kenya urged an inclusive, civilian-led process.

“Kenya supports the timelines proposed by the Quad for launching an inclusive transition process to be concluded within nine months,” the statement said.

“Kenya concurs that this transition should lead to the establishment of an independent, civilian-led government with broad legitimacy, which is essential for Sudan’s long-term stability.”
