A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) has officially stepped down from his role as Chairperson of the Kisii County Assembly Audit Committee.

Evans Ogari Onwonga’s resignation dated 16th September 2025, was formally acknowledged by the County Assembly Service Board on Tuesday.

Onwonga cited the completion of the committee’s core responsibilities and the submission of the final Auditor-General’s Report for the 2024/2025 financial year as key reasons for his departure.

“I assumed role to provide direction, logical and financial resources and enable the Audit Committee to carry out its functions effectively,” he wrote, referencing his tenure that began in September 2022.

However, he lamented the lack of progress and described the committee as “dysfunctional,” prompting his decision to resign.

The timing of Onwonga’s resignation coincides with heightened scrutiny of Kisii County’s financial management.

Just months earlier, the Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAC) flagged 52 unresolved audit queries in the Auditor-General’s report for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

These included procurement anomalies, unaccounted expenditures, and misallocation of public funds—issues that may have compounded frustrations within the Audit Committee.

“After careful consideration, I tender my resignation as the Chairperson of Kisii County Assembly Audit Committee,” he concluded in his letter.

The handwritten acknowledgment—“Received! 17/09/2025 Secretary C.A.S.B”—marks the official end of his tenure.
