Kenyans have been advised to prepare for a brief disruption in M-PESA services as Safaricom PLC schedules a system upgrade on Monday, 22nd September 2025.
The interruption will occur from 12:30 AM to 3:30 AM.
According to an official notice released on 19th September, all M-PESA services—including mobile money transfers, airtime purchases, and bill payments—will be temporarily unavailable during this three-hour maintenance window.
Safaricom emphasized that the upgrade is part of its ongoing commitment to enhance service quality, security, and reliability for millions of users across Kenya.
The timing of the upgrade, set for the early hours of the morning, was deliberately chosen to minimize inconvenience to customers.
This announcement comes at a time when digital financial services are increasingly vital to daily life in the country.
With many Kenyans relying on M-PESA for business transactions, school fees, and household purchases, even short outages can have ripple effects.
While the upgrade may cause temporary inconvenience, Safaricom’s proactive communication and strategic scheduling reflect a broader trend of tech-driven transformation in Kenya.
Customers are encouraged to complete any urgent transactions before the scheduled downtime and to remain patient as the company works to deliver improved services.
The company appreciates customer support, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in Kenya’s digital economy.
