Nairobi is set to host East Africa’s largest cycling event this Sunday, October 5, 2025, as the 5th edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race rolls out from Nyayo Stadium.

More than 3,500 cyclists from over 20 countries will participate in the high-energy competition, which has grown into a signature event blending athleticism with social impact.

Organized in partnership with The Grand Nairobi Race, the event will begin at 6:00 AM, transforming the city’s streets into a vibrant showcase of endurance and community spirit.

To ensure safety, temporary road closures will begin at midnight on Saturday and reopen at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

Race partners—including the Kenya Police, NTSA, and KURA—will issue detailed updates on affected routes.

Motorists are advised to access Nyayo Stadium via Nairobi West before 6:00 AM.

Caroline Ndungu, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Jubilee Insurance, emphasized that the race is about more than competition.

“Beyond the excitement, we are shining a light on two causes that touch lives directly,” she said in Nairobi.

“First, the need for mobility and dignity for amputees, where access to prosthetic limbs remains a major challenge.”

She added: “Second, we are driving environmental action through planting trees, setting up kitchen gardens, and restoring water towers in marginalized schools.”

This year’s race also comes with increased prize money—KES 4 million, up from KES 3 million last year—aimed at motivating cyclists to train harder and aim higher.

The event has drawn elite riders and enthusiasts from across Africa, Europe, and Asia, reinforcing Nairobi’s growing reputation as a regional hub for endurance sports.

Nyayo Stadium will serve as the race village, open to the public and designed to accommodate families, children, and cycling fans. Visitors can expect food stalls, kids’ zones, and relaxation spaces.

For those not competing, the day will feature live performances by Charisma and Vijana Baru Baru, along with other family-friendly entertainment.

Now in its fifth year, the Jubilee Live Free Race has become a cornerstone of Nairobi’s sporting calendar, championing health, resilience, and community empowerment.
