Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has officially launched the Nyamira County ICT Hub, a centre aimed at equipping young people with digital skills to boost self-employment and innovation.

Speaking during the graduation of 20 students who completed a month-long training in web development, graphics design, cybersecurity, content writing, script writing, and virtual assistance, the governor said similar hubs will be rolled out across all four sub-counties.

“This is a bold step that will transform Nyamira into a hub of digital innovation and skilled labour for both local and global markets,” he said.

“It is an affirmation of my commitment to empowering youth as part of socio-economic transformation.”

The hub, located at the county headquarters, is equipped with 32 workstations and high-speed internet.

It is expected to train cohorts of 30 students monthly, translating to at least 360 youth annually.

Governor Nyaribo noted that his administration is working with banks and development partners to provide graduates with soft loans to acquire computers and launch entrepreneurial ventures.

He further pledged to reduce youth poverty from 7.6 percent to 3 percent by scaling up digital training programmes.

Lead instructor and Kisii University lecturer Teresah Abuya urged young people to embrace ICT opportunities and take advantage of the free mentorship available.

On behalf of the graduates, Chris Nyabera said the skills gained would help them venture into self-employment.

County leaders present at the event included Nyamira South DCC Esther Obunga, who represented County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, County Secretary Dr Jack Magara, and several CEC members.

Ms Obunga encouraged more youth to enroll, saying digital skills would allow them to work from home and become self-reliant.
