Dr Henry Ongeri, a Nyamira-born lawyer has urged Kenyan youth to seize what he calls a “historic and monumental opportunity” in the 2027 General Election.
Making the appeal through online platforms, Dr Ongeri emphasized that the future of Kenya lies squarely in the hands of the youth.
He made the remarks at a time the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has rolled out Continuous Voter Registration ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
“This election is not just another cycle. It is a singular path for transformational change in decades,” Dr Ongeri, who is eyeing the Nyamira gubernatorial seat in 2027 said.
“Your vote is the most potent tool for crafting the Kenya you crave and deserve — a Kenya of merit-based advancement and employment, corruption-free management, and fairness and justice.”
IEBC is targeting to register at least 5.6 million new voters ahead of 2027, most of them from the youth bracket.
But the commission is grappling with significant hurdles, including a budget deficit, pending bills worth over KSh 3.8 billion, and demands for a full audit of the voter register.
Despite these challenges, it has requested KSh 61.7 billion spread over three years to deliver credible polls.
The registration exercise started late last month and is progressing at the snail’s speed, according to data shared by IEBC recently.
Dr Ongeri, who has consistently decried poor leadership in Nyamira, registration period as a turning point.
“The opportunities that are in Nyamira are undercut by two things — poor leadership and poor leadership,” he said.
Dr Ongeri, who has practiced law in Kenya and the United States says that he intends to offer “new ideas, a bold vision, and fresh faces” to county governance.
IEBC has urged Kenyans, especially the youth, to verify their details through its online voter portal and register early to avoid last-minute congestion.
The ballot remains their unmatched power to usher in a new era and discard the status quo.
