Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has lauded Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for agreeing to work with his administration, saying cooperation among leaders is key to accelerating development.
The Governor noted that past wrangles between the executive and the assembly had slowed progress.
“More development is always realised where there is peace among elected leaders. I thank our MCAs for accepting to work with me for faster development of this county,” Nyaribo said.
He was speaking at the funeral of Jane Nyaboke Nyang’au, sister to Bokeira MCA Joel Ombongi, in Nyaututu village, North Mugirango Constituency.
The service was also attended by Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro and several MCAs, including Duke Masira (Township), Lameck Nyakianga (Itibo), Julius Nyangana (Bomwagamo), George Morara (Bogichora), Priscilla Nyatichi (Nominated) and Doris Nyamanga (Nominated).
On behalf of the Assembly, Masira acknowledged past tensions, including two failed impeachment attempts, but pledged to move forward.
“For the remaining period, we are ready to work with you, Your Excellency, for the sake of developing our region. Let us forge ahead together despite our past differences,” he said.
Governor Nyaribo also called for peaceful campaigns in the forthcoming by-elections in three wards; Ekerenyo, Nyamaiya and Nyansiongo.
In addition, he urged Gusii residents to unite behind former Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i in the 2027 presidential race.
“It is high time Gusii residents voted for one of their own instead of allowing their votes to be used as bargaining chips by other candidates,” he said, further urging respect among local politicians.
The funeral was also attended by county executives and chief officers.
