More than 300 students benefited from a free health screening exercise organised by Ruiru Community Clinic in partnership with local schools on Friday.

The one-day event aimed to promote early detection of health issues among young people, particularly lifestyle-related conditions such as obesity and hypertension.

According to the clinic’s director, Dr Lucy Wanjiku, many students rarely undergo medical check-ups due to financial constraints or lack of awareness.

“We realised that many learners ignore symptoms until it’s too late,” she said.

“This programme helps them understand the importance of regular health checks.”

Students from various institutions, including Ruiru High School and Githunguri Vocational College, participated in the exercise, which featured free dental, vision and nutrition assessments.

The organisers plan to make the screening an annual event and expand it to other schools within Kiambu County.
