The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Disciplinary Committee has summoned Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale to explain allegations of disloyalty to the party.

A case in point is clains of his open support for a candidate from a rival political formation.

In a letter dated October 2025, UDA accuses the senator of “promoting the interests of a different political party” by actively participating in campaigns for a candidate contesting against the UDA nominee in the Malava Constituency by-election.

“The Disciplinary Committee is in receipt of information and evidence of your various political activities, utterances and associations which are widely circulated in the media and therefore well within the public domain,” the letter reads in part.

“Your support for the said opposing candidate has been open, vocal, conspicuous and substantial.”

The party claims the senator’s actions amount to “gross misconduct” and breach of the UDA Constitution and Code of Conduct, as well as Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya, which demands integrity and discipline from public officials.

“The duties of a party member obligate such a member to popularise the party and observe discipline, including strict compliance with the party’s Code of Conduct,” wrote UDA Disciplinary Committee Chairperson Charles Njenga.

The committee has given the senator fourteen days to respond and show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

“You are hereby required to show cause why appropriate disciplinary action should not be taken against you and why the sanctions provided for in the party constitution should not be imposed,” the letter adds.

If found culpable, the senator could face sanctions ranging from suspension to expulsion from the ruling party.
