The Ministry of Education, through the Universities Fund (UF), has launched two digital platforms — the Institutional Portal and the Online Donations Portal — aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability in higher education funding.

Speaking during the launch at the UF offices, Principal Secretary for Higher Education Dr Beatrice Inyangala lauded the innovation as a milestone in Kenya’s digital transformation journey.

“This system is a game changer in how data sharing happens between the Universities Fund and the 79 universities in the country,” Dr Inyangala said.

“It will enhance efficiency, data integrity, and transparency in higher education financing.”

She added that the Donations Portal would open new avenues for resource mobilisation by providing “a transparent avenue for individuals, corporates, alumni, and development partners to support targeted areas such as Special Needs Education, Research and Innovation, and Climate Action Initiatives.”

The two systems are part of the Fund’s alignment with the Government’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the Universities Fund Strategic Plan 2023–2027.

Acting UF Chief Executive Officer Dr Edwin Wanyonyi said the portals mark a strategic shift in university financing, ensuring every shilling disbursed is anchored on verified data.

“The Institutional Portal is more than a digital system — it is a portal through time, a gateway connecting Kenya’s higher education from where it has been to where it must go,” he said.

Dr Wanyonyi added that the platforms were developed in collaboration with all 79 universities, making them “not just a UF innovation, but a sector-owned solution.”
