The journey to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games continues for Kenyan golfers as the PGK Equator Tour enters its sixth leg this week at the picturesque Diamonds Leisure Golf Resort in Diani, Kwale County.

The event tees off on Thursday and runs until Sunday, 26th October, with over 40 Kenyan professionals expected to compete for vital Olympic qualification points and ranking positions.

Leading the standings ahead of the Diani leg is Muthaiga’s Greg Snow, followed closely by Daniel Nduva, Dismas Indiza, and Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Njoroge.

The competition is expected to be fierce as players jostle to improve their positions and move closer to qualification for both the 2025 Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympic Games.

Among those headlining the action are Safaricom-sponsored golfers Samuel Njoroge, Mohit Mediratta, Mutahi Kibugu, and Matthew Wahome, all of whom will be seeking strong finishes after consistent performances throughout the season.

“The last leg in Nakuru was amazing. I finished second, just two points behind Indiza. My focus now is on maintaining form and building momentum as we move closer to the Olympic qualifiers,” said Samuel Njoroge.

“Diani offers a great course and good playing conditions, so I’ll do my best to finish on top.”

The Diani leg follows successful outings at Ruiru Sports Club, Limuru Country Club, Mt Kipipiri Golf Resort, Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort, and Nakuru Golf Club.

Each leg has tested the players’ consistency and adaptability, providing a vital platform for Kenya’s top golfers to compete in diverse conditions.

Since its inception, the PGK Equator Tour has become a cornerstone in nurturing local talent, allowing players to earn ranking points that contribute towards global standings and qualification for international tournaments.

The Tour continues to receive strong support from partners, including Safaricom, which has committed KES 3 million over three years to sponsor four professional golfers as part of its broader initiative to grow local sporting talent and enhance Kenya’s representation on the global stage.
