Kenya’s Ministry of Roads and Transport has expressed sorrow following a tragic aircraft accident in Kwale County that claimed the lives of all 11 people on board.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that the ill-fated aircraft, registered 5Y-CCA and operated by Mombasa Air Safari, departed from Diani Airport en route to Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

According to the report, the plane lost radar contact with the Mombasa International Airport control tower at approximately 8:35 a.m., just ten minutes after take-off.

Multi-agency emergency response teams were immediately dispatched, and the wreckage was later located in Tsimba Golini Ward, Matuga Sub-County, Kwale County.

Tragically, all 11 occupants of the aircraft were found to have suffered fatal injuries, according to the statement signed by Davis Chirchir, Cabinet Secretary (CS).

The aircraft was destroyed by the impact and the ensuing fire.

The Ministry extended its ‘heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and the entire aviation community.”

As per the provisions of Annex 13 to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Convention, investigators from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) have been deployed to the scene, the statement said.

The investigators will conduct a comprehensive on-site investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Ministry said the Government remains committed to ensuring a transparent, thorough, and independent investigation and will implement all necessary measures to uphold the highest standards of air safety in Kenya.

Chirchir assured the public that aviation safety remains the Government’s highest priority and promised timely updates as more information becomes available.

He also reiterated that the Government stands united in offering every possible support and comfort to all those affected.

The Ministry reaffirmed that its findings will be made public once the investigation is complete, underscoring Kenya’s commitment to transparency and to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.
