SGA Security has advised Kenyans living in or travelling to Tanzania to exercise extreme caution amid reports of widespread protests and rising tension.
The country went to the polls on Wednesday 29th with key opposition figures including Tundu Lisu barred from participating.
Although the presidential race has as many as 17 candidates, Samia Suluhu who is defending the deat appeared to run against herself as the rest were considered nonstarters.
According SGA, demonstrations had been reported in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza and several other towns, prompting a heavy police presence, roadblocks and restricted movement in some areas.
The situation, SGA warned, remains “volatile and fluid,” with the potential for sudden outbreaks of violence between protesters and security forces.
Kenyans residing in Tanzania have been urged to stay indoors during periods of unrest, avoid political gatherings and polling stations, and keep emergency supplies such as food, water, and cash.
They are also advised to monitor local media and official government channels for real-time updates.
Travellers have been encouraged to postpone non-essential visits until stability returns.
Those already en route are advised to plan routes carefully, confirm hotel security, and use private or pre-arranged transport instead of public means.
SGA further warned of increased security checks at border points including Namanga, Holili, and Lunga Lunga.
