A businessman has died after jumping from the second floor of a commercial building in Kisumu city, according to information availed to KPC.
Sources accompanying the attached material say the man drove into town, parked his vehicle in the basement of the building and handed the car key to a watchman before going upstairs to the second floor, from where he subsequently jumped.
Emergency teams declared him dead at the scene.
No official police statement about the businessman’s identity, motive or the exact time of the incident had been published at the time of filing.
However, it is believed that the man had a pending transaction with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) which has offices at the building.
The Authority has since issued a statement and promised to cooperate with the police as they undertake investigations.

Police have since taken charge of the scene and launched inquiries, according to reports.
The incident adds to a string of disturbing public episodes in Kisumu this year in which pedestrians and residents have died after apparent suicide attempts in public places.
CCTV footage widely circulated earlier in the year captured a man who repeatedly stepped into the path of moving traffic on a Kisumu highway and was fatally hit by a car.
Media reports from January 2025 documented that episode and prompted calls for urgent attention to mental health and street safety.
Police and county officials normally follow standard procedures in such cases, including an on-site inspection, removal of the body to the county mortuary and a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Local authorities are also expected to record statements from the watchman and any other witnesses and to review any available CCTV footage from inside or around the building to establish a timeline.
