Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i made a notable appearance at the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) on Thursday, amid growing speculation about his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting follows a formal communication from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), dated 27th October 2023, confirming receipt and approval of proposed changes to the Jubilee Party constitution.

The Registrar, J. G. Lonkolono, stated: “The documents have been reviewed and found to be compliant with the requirements of Section 20 and the Second Schedule of the Political Parties Act, 2011.”

The changes were subsequently gazetted in Kenya Gazette Vol. CXXV-No. 218.

Among the submitted documents were minutes from the 26th September 2023 NDC, a statutory PP1 form, and evidence of public notice in the Daily Nation on 24th October 2023.

Dr Matiang’i’s presence at today’s convention has sparked renewed interest in Jubilee’s future direction.

While he has not officially declared his intentions, insiders suggest he may be named to a senior party role as Jubilee positions itself for 2027.

“We are laying the foundation for a disciplined, visionary leadership,” said one delegate, adding that Dr Matiang’i’s track record in public service “speaks for itself.”

The Jubilee Party, once dominant under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, appears to be regrouping with a focus on unity and reform.

Meanwhile, Dr Fred Matiang’i’s entry into the 2027 presidential race has sparked widespread interest, largely due to his reputation as a results-driven technocrat.

During his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary, he was credited with streamlining government operations, enforcing discipline across ministries, and curbing exam fraud while serving in Education.

“You know very well that I am a doer,” he told supporters in Nyamira in May 2025, adding that his decision to run was driven by calls from Kenyans who “want leadership that works”.

Moreover, Dr Matiang’i has positioned himself as a critic of the current administration, particularly on issues of governance and security.

In a recent interview on Spice FM, he said: “We must restore dignity and discipline in our politics.”

Observers say that his blend of firmness, experience, and reformist tone makes his presidential bid one to watch.
