Parliamentary staff have been encouraged to adopt a culture of physical fitness, mental wellness, and teamwork to boost productivity and create a more positive work environment.
Speaking at the official opening of the Parliamentary Sports Event at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, the Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), Jeremiah Nyegenye, highlighted the importance of integrating wellness and camaraderie into the daily life of Parliament.
“We want to entrench a culture of physical and mental wellness among Parliamentary staff,” said Nyegenye.
He noted that the sporting initiative was designed to strengthen professional relationships, nurture teamwork, and promote collaboration for better service delivery.
“The objective of this event is to build unity, encourage teamwork, and foster collaboration for excellent results,” he added.

Nyegenye commended the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, for supporting the event.
He applauded the Bunge Sports Committee and the Parliamentary management team for their effective coordination.
He further praised staff for their enthusiastic participation, urging them to maintain healthy competition and deepen bonds of unity.
“A family that plays together stays together,” he remarked.
Echoing his sentiments, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, lauded staff for their enthusiasm and impressive turnout, observing that sports provide a unique opportunity to bridge departmental divides.
“It is wonderful to see all Parliamentary staff here, regardless of their Service. We have put aside our titles and positions to compete in a healthy and friendly manner,” said Njoroge.
He encouraged participants to apply the spirit of teamwork demonstrated on the field to their daily responsibilities.
“Sport is the only activity in the world that unites people,” he emphasised.

The Director General of Parliamentary Joint Services, Clement Nyandiere, also urged staff to actively participate and enjoy the games in a lively, collegial atmosphere.
The two-day event features a variety of disciplines including football, volleyball, netball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, darts, athletics, tug of war, pool, swimming, scrabble, and chess.
Staff have been divided into four teams: White and Black (led by Nyegenye), Red (led by Njoroge), and Gold (led by Nyandiere).
