Kisii University has launched investigations into claims that some students have been asked to pay unauthorised fees to access their academic transcripts.

In a statement, the university said it had received reports through social media that a few students allegedly paid between KSh100 and KSh150 to individuals purporting to fast-track the release of their transcripts.

“The University views these allegations with utmost seriousness. Such actions, if proven, constitute a grave violation of the University’s ethical standards, operational procedures, and commitment to integrity,” the statement from the Corporate Communications Department read in part.

The University clarified that no student had yet made an official complaint but confirmed that investigations were already underway to uncover the truth and “take decisive action against any individual(s), whether internal or external, who are culpable.”

The institution urged any student, staff member, or member of the public with information to come forward.

“All official University services are rendered transparently and are guided by applicable policies — not personal negotiation or informal transactions,” the university said, warning against engaging in unlawful payments.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to uphold “the highest standards of ethics, service, and accountability,” noting that its name and reputation rest on transparency and fairness.

The statement comes amid rising national concern over academic integrity and documentation fraud in Kenyan universities, with several institutions tightening systems to prevent unauthorised access to academic records.
