For the people of Nyamira County, the word impeachment has become all too familiar.

Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo, who rose to office in 2021 following the death of his predecessor John Nyagarama, now faces yet another attempt to remove him from power.

This latest motion, tabled by Bonyamatuta’s Julius Kimwomi Matwere before the County Assembly, accuses the Governor of gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.

The charges are weighty: from assenting to a supplementary budget without Assembly approval, to appointing officials without vetting, and ignoring court orders.

The motion paints a picture of a leader accused of bypassing democratic processes and undermining the very institutions meant to hold him accountable.

“The Governor has galloped outside the confines of the Constitution,” Matwere declared, accusing Nyaribo of deliberate disregard for the rule of law.

But for Nyamira residents, this is not new terrain.

Nyaribo has faced political turbulence before, with whispers of impeachment motions surfacing in past years over alleged mismanagement and strained relations with the Assembly.

Each time, the county has been thrown into uncertainty, with governance grinding to a halt as leaders traded accusations.

The latest move, scheduled for debate on 25th November 2025, rekindles memories of those earlier battles and raises questions about whether Nyamira can ever escape its cycle of political instability.

Behind the legal jargon lies a human story: a county struggling to balance hope and disappointment.

Residents have long demanded better healthcare, improved roads, and jobs for the youth.

Yet, instead of progress, they often witness leaders locked in endless wrangles.

For many, impeachment motions symbolise not just accountability but also the deep fractures in local politics.

Governor Nyaribo, who has the right to appear before the Assembly or send legal representation, will once again have to defend his record.

His supporters argue that he has been a victim of political witch-hunts, while critics insist that his leadership has failed to inspire confidence.
