President William Samoei Ruto has received continental recognition after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) honoured him with the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025, marking a major moment in Kenya’s sporting resurgence.

The accolade celebrates his role in reshaping the country’s football landscape, pushing long-delayed reforms, and championing excellence at every level of sport.

CAF praised President Ruto for setting new standards in how African nations can strengthen and modernise their football systems.

The recognition comes months after Kenya co-hosted CHAN 2024, a tournament hailed as the most successful in the competition’s history.

With President Ruto personally leading preparations, Kenya staged a record-breaking championship defined by seamless organisation and a memorable final held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani — a moment that signalled the country’s readiness to host world-class events.

The Harambee Stars’ performance at CHAN 2024 further cemented the significance of this award.

Inspired by the President’s encouragement and renewed investment, the team topped their so-called “Group of Death,” reached the quarter-finals in their debut appearance, and stunned the continent by defeating African giants Morocco in a match that drew international attention.

Beyond the tournament, Kenya’s broader sports sector is experiencing a decisive shift.

President Ruto has overseen major investments in modern stadia, launched talent academies, revitalised community sports grounds, introduced a redesigned athlete development system, and enhanced cash rewards and welfare for players.

These efforts have elevated Kenya’s profile as a competitive sporting nation and a preferred destination for hosting major continental contests.

CAF’s recognition marks an important milestone in Kenya’s sporting journey.

For many, it confirms that the dream of transforming Kenya into a respected global sporting powerhouse is no longer distant.

It is an achievement that reflects years of focused effort, and one that many Kenyans believe is richly deserved.
