The Senate will now handle the impeachment of Nyamira Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo in a full plenary session after a motion to create a special committee failed for lack of a seconder.
The motion, introduced by the Senate Majority Leader and listed as Order No. 8 on Thursday’s Order Paper, was automatically withdrawn under Senate Standing Order 71 when no senator stepped in to support it.
In his communication to the House, Speaker Amason Kingi explained that the Senate had already received a formal resolution from the Nyamira County Assembly, dated November 25, 2025, seeking Governor Nyaribo’s removal from office.
According to Section 33A of the County Governments Act and Standing Order 81B, the Senate can only proceed with impeachment either through an 11-member special committee or through a plenary hearing.

With the committee option now off the table, the matter will be heard on the floor of the House.
The Senate Business Committee, which met earlier on Thursday, has already laid out a provisional timetable for the hearings.
The Office of the Clerk will send official invitations to all parties on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Each party is required to submit its response by Monday, December 1, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
Senators will then receive the parties’ documents and the full hearing programme by the close of business on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
The impeachment hearings are scheduled to take place in the Senate on Wednesday, December 3, and Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The Speaker assured senators that the House remains guided by law and procedure and will conduct the process accordingly.
