Kenya has formally presented its bid to host the 2025 Africa Media Convention (AMC).

Representatives expressed confidence that the country’s vibrant and resilient media sector makes it the ideal destination for the continent’s premier media gathering.

The presentation was made Tuesday evening during a hybrid session at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Kenya outlined why its media environment stands out on the continent, according to a statement signed by the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) Secretary General Eric Oduor.

Kenya argued that its pluralistic press, strong professional tradition, and long-standing commitment to media freedom make it home to one of Africa’s most dynamic and influential media ecosystems.

“Our media remains one of the freest, most diverse and most enterprising in Africa,” Oduor said.

“It is this energy that we want to share with the continent through the Africa Media Convention.”

Kenya is competing against Ethiopia for hosting rights.

The delegation emphasized the country’s proven record in hosting major continental events, as well as the unified support from media stakeholders, government institutions and development partners.

The bid was presented by Oduor and the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) President Zubeidah Kananu, with technical support from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) led by CEO David Omwoyo.

“We believe Kenya offers not just capacity, but a spirit of openness, innovation and collaboration that continues to strengthen Africa’s media community,” added Ms. Kananu.

The AU is expected to communicate the final decision in writing by 19 December 2025.
