A Kenyan has impressed sports fans worldwide with his breathtaking debut at the 2026 Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship in London.

The story that feels almost too cinematic to be true is all about David Munyua, a veterinarian from Murang’a County, who has become a global star.

Munyua had never seriously played a sport like darts until barely three years ago.

According to interviews, it all began one evening in a local Murang’a bar when a friend introduced him to the game during a casual drink.

Intrigued by the challenge, Munyua threw his first dart, and immediately bought a board the next day to practice at home, according to Dartsnews.com.

What started as a fun pastime quickly grew into a passion, and Munyua, encouraged by friends, soon entered local tournaments not for fame or fortune, but for the camaraderie and sportsmanship that accompanied the game.

Within a surprisingly short time, he began to stand out for his natural precision and calm under pressure.

Balancing his veterinary career, where he cares for companion animals by day, with late-night dart practice, Munyua took his first major step onto the competitive stage by winning the African Darts Group Championship.

That victory earned him a place at the PDC World Darts Championship in Alexandra Palace, London, marking the first time he had ever travelled outside Africa.

He then stunned the darts world by staging a dramatic comeback against Belgium’s Mike De Decker, a top-20 ranked player, winning 3–2 after trailing two sets.

His performance made him the first Kenyan ever to win a match at darts’ most prestigious tournament, capturing widespread attention back home and abroad.

Back in Kenya, his achievement has sparked national pride with President William Ruto publicly congratulated Munyua, calling his win a historic moment and urging him to “bring the trophy home.”
