The Ministry of Education has dismissed claims circulating on social media that school fees for public secondary schools have been increased by KSh 9,374, calling them “false and misleading.”

In a press statement, Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba reaffirmed that learners in public day secondary schools continue to pay zero tuition fees under the Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) programme.

“Parents are assured that school fees have not been increased,” Ogamba stated.

“Day scholars pay zero fees, and boarding fees remain unchanged.”

The Ministry clarified that the government capitation of KSh 22,244 per learner per year covers all tuition-related costs.

Boarding fees, capped at KSh 53,554 for urban schools and KSh 40,535 for others, have not changed since the 2019 FDSE guidelines.

Ogamba also addressed structural changes in school classification, noting that the shift from National and County categories to Clusters C1–C4 “does not introduce any new fees.”

He warned that any school charging unauthorised levies “will face appropriate administrative and disciplinary action,” urging parents to report such cases.
