KUCCPS Opens KMTC Applications, Giving Thousands a Path into Medical Careers

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened applications for the March 2026 Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) intake.

The application window runs from January 7 to January 27, 2026, marking the start of the 2026 phased placement process for universities and colleges.

Eligible Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders can apply for both diploma and certificate programmes offered by KMTC through the KUCCPS online portal.

This year, 21,774 training slots are available across 36 programmes in 98 KMTC campuses spread throughout the country, offering a wide geographical reach and diverse course options

“Qualified KCSE holders are invited to log into the KUCCPS online application system and select available KMTC programmes, subject to meeting the minimum requirements,” KUCCPS said in the release, urging students to carefully review course criteria before applying.

In a move expected to benefit more applicants, the minimum Biology requirement for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme has been lowered from D+ to D (plain).

According to KUCCPS, this change will not affect training quality, as professional bodies continue to enforce strict standards.

“This revision cannot compromise the quality of training,” the agency noted, emphasizing that oversight by professional bodies remains firm.

The programme is particularly timely as Kenya rolls out major health reforms, including automation and the health insurance scheme under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Graduates with relevant skills are expected to enjoy improved employment prospects in health facilities across the country.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Wahome also encouraged applicants to use official channels only, warning against fraudsters targeting desperate students.

“Nobody, including cybercafé attendants, should request placement applicants to provide their KCSE certificates or result slips,” Dr. Wahome said.

“To be safe, applicants seeking Internet services are advised to visit Huduma Centres, where trained staff are available.”

She further raised concern over fake social media accounts impersonating KUCCPS officials.

“We are sending out a warning that KUCCPS is working with relevant Government agencies to track the impersonators,” Dr. Wahome said.

Students placed into KMTC through KUCCPS also stand to benefit from HELB funding, following government allocation of funds to support medical trainees.

“We encourage students to apply for placement into KMTC to benefit from the funding,” the agency stated.
