The government has formally extended the tenure of the Experts Panel through a special gazette notice, granting the entity additional time to complete its mandate.
The notice, published in Kenya Gazette Vol. 3 on 5 January 2026, confirms that the panelâs service period has been prolonged beyond its original timeline, underscoring the administrationâs recognition of the panelâs critical role in shaping policy and providing technical guidance.
Officials said the extension was necessary to allow the panel to finalise ongoing work streams that are central to national planning and reform.
âThe government acknowledges the importance of continuity in this process and has therefore extended the time of service for the Experts Panel,â the gazette stated.
The panel, comprised of seasoned professionals drawn from diverse sectors, was initially appointed to provide independent expertise on matters of governance, economic planning, and institutional strengthening.
Its recommendations have already informed several policy directions, but officials noted that more time was required to consolidate findings and ensure implementation.
By extending the panelâs tenure, the government aims to safeguard institutional memory and maintain momentum on reforms that are considered vital for Kenyaâs socio-economic trajectory.
The gazette notice further clarified that the panel will continue to operate under its existing terms of reference, with the new timeline providing room for deeper consultation and engagement with both government and civil society.
The extension of service is expected to run until later in 2026, after which the government will review the panelâs outputs and determine next steps.
