Obuya Academy A held their nerve to secure a dramatic three-run victory over Swamibapa B in a thrilling Nairobi County Cricket Association (NCCA) T20 Division One clash at Jamhuri High School on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Obuya Academy A posted 144 for five in their 20 overs, anchored by Ken Mwangi’s fluent 52 off 33 balls, an innings that included two fours and four sixes.

The knock was particularly significant as it marked Mwangi’s 1,000th career run. Veteran all-rounder Collins Obuya added valuable support with 40 off 36 deliveries, striking three boundaries and two sixes.

Swamibapa B mounted a spirited chase and finished on 141 for seven, falling just short despite sustained pressure on the Obuya bowlers.

Collins Obuya also made an impact with the ball, picking up two wickets to help close out the contest.

One spectator summed up his display succinctly: “Like old wine, Obuya gets better with age.”

The win gives Obuya Academy A a timely boost as the T20 league gathers momentum.

Elsewhere in Division One, Kanbis B claimed a convincing 40-run win over Nairobi Gymkhana B after posting 156 for three, before bowling out their opponents for 116 in 19.4 overs.

Sir Ali B were equally dominant, thrashing Kenya Kongonis A by 87 runs after piling up 167 for seven and dismissing Kongonis for 80. Ngara B edged Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj B by five runs, while Ruaraka B cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Sikh Union B.

In Division Two action, Obuya Academy B continued the family’s fine weekend with an eight-run win over Vardhan Academy.

David Obuya struck 41 off 23 balls while Kennedy Otieno Obuya added 40 off 25 as Obuya Academy B posted 176 for eight.

Vardhan replied with 168 for six, narrowly missing the target.

The performances once again highlighted the enduring influence of the Obuya brothers—Collins, Kennedy, and David—who all represented Kenya internationally and were part of the historic 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup squad that reached the semi-finals, a milestone that remains one of Kenyan cricket’s proudest moments.
