Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has dismissed claims that donor funds allocated to the county have been lost, despite the National Treasury suspending the county from implementing a World Bank-supported climate programme over financial management concerns.

Governor Nyaribo spoke on Friday during the burial of his father-in-law, Mzee Samson Nyambane Omae, at Isoge in Esise Ward, Borabu Constituency, where he accused some leaders of politicising the issue.

“Some people are claiming that money has been lost. Put aside politics. No money has been lost — not even a coin,” the Governor said.

He added that the funding would soon be restored once the matter is clarified.

His remarks come against the backdrop of a December 15, 2025 letter from the National Treasury, which formally suspended Nyamira County Government from implementing the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme.

In the letter addressed to Governor Nyaribo, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi Ng’ongo said that recent World Bank missions to the county had identified significant financial management irregularities, including unauthorised use of resources, unsupported expenditures and non-delivered activities.

The Treasury noted that while the findings related to two specific World Bank-funded projects — the Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project and the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project — the issues raised concerns about the overall accountability and governance of project resources in the county.

“As a result, your county is hereby suspended from implementation of the FLLoCA Programme until the raised issues are cleared and communication done to the National Treasury,” the letter states.

Governor Nyaribo, however, maintained that the suspension does not mean donor funds have been lost, insisting that his administration will clear the issues raised and continue delivering development as per its election manifesto.

“I will soon clear the air on this matter and the truth will come out,” he said.

The Governor assured residents of Esise Ward and Nyamira County at large that development projects would proceed without distraction, outlining planned works including water distribution from boreholes, completion of Isoge Health Facility by December this year, and opening up of roads using county machinery already deployed in the area.
