Junior golfer Nathan Mwangi produced a standout performance to claim top honours at the Absa and Johnnie Walker–sponsored Sunshine Development Tour Members Day held at Karen Country Club.
Mwangi finished first overall with 43 points, edging a strong field of more than 250 golfers. Kithinji Kiragu settled for second place on 42 points after a countback, while Violet Luchendo posted 41 points to finish third. Joe Sang came in fourth with 40 points.
In the gross category, Ali Mohamed carded an impressive 75 to take top honours. Edwin Komen won the sponsor category with 42 points, ahead of Renato D’Souza, who finished second on 38 points.
Sheha Omanga emerged victorious in the junior category with 35 points, while Margaret Thande claimed the senior category title after returning 39 points.
There were also several individual challenge winners. Muthoni Kioi claimed the nearest-to-the-pin prize in the ladies’ junior category, while Ken Ombati won the men’s equivalent.
Atsango Lwande took the longest drive award in the ladies’ category, with Muchemi Ndungu winning in the men’s division.
Speaking after the event, Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing promoter Charles Gacheru thanked the sponsors for their support throughout the week-long activities at Karen Country Club.
“This Members Day was an important part of closing out the inaugural Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing. It allowed us to bring club members into the journey of the Tour,” said Gacheru.
“We are grateful to Absa and Johnnie Walker for their support, not only of this event but of the wider Tour programme. Their partnership enabled us to deliver a full week of competitive golf, meaningful engagement with members, and a strong conclusion to the season.”
The Members Day formed part of the finale week of the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing at Karen Country Club, with Absa and Johnnie Walker as the title sponsors.
