The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has condemned the brutal killing of Mr. Stephen Vundi Musili, a teacher at Hulugho Primary School in Garissa County, who was attacked and killed on Sunday by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

Mr. Musili, who joined the Commission in January 2025, was described as a dedicated educator serving in a challenging environment with courage and commitment.

His body has since been flown to Nairobi for preservation at Chiromo Funeral Home as arrangements for his burial continue.

In a statement, the Commission said it was working closely with the teacher’s family to ensure a dignified sendoff.

â€śThe Commission strongly condemns this heinous and cowardly act of terror, which has not only robbed a young teacher of his life but also undermines the right to education, peace, and security for teachers and learners alike,” read part of the statement.

The Commission further announced that officials, together with other government agencies, will visit Hulugho Sub County on January 27 to assess the security situation and ascertain the safety of teachers in the area.

Acting Commission Secretary Ms. J.E.J. Mitei extended condolences on behalf of the teaching fraternity, saying: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Stephen Vundi Musili, his relatives, colleagues, and learners during this moment of profound grief.”
