POETIC TURN: The Fixers

The nation is broken, disjointed on many fronts,
With loose joints everywhere, some beyond repair.
Before the fixers were identified,
The nation pleaded for repair with the right spanners.
And the right fixers.

The task begins with knowing where to fix.
Who broke it remains unknown;
When it broke is undocumented—but the fixers have been found.
Clockwise, the lady carries enough quotes
To guide her through a season of “fixing the nation.”

She is relevant, she is in season.
Her words are well researched,
Consistent with the topic of the day,
And steady through the fixing session.

In time, she may fix the nation as a judge.
She has proved she commands judgment.
Judges build their rulings carefully,
And her words have never let her down.
Perhaps a panel could be set—

To fix her to the Bar, then to the Bench.
Then, in retirement, to the alternative dispute resolution desk.

The gentleman, on his part, can beat tribal barriers,
Rise to become a senator,
And represent a far-North county in the House.
That would be a worthy fixing of a tribal nation.
He appears gentle in demeanor,

Yet fluent in the national conversation.
A council of elders should negotiate his debut.
I believe he can sustain a five-minute political speech

The last of the fixers may rise as a formidable debater,
Convincing the Speaker of the day
Why Nyamira County urgently deserves
A taxpayer-funded women empowerment programme.

She too can break tribal barriers
By being elected to represent women
In the National Assembly from Nyamira.
As a youth, she will draw strength from the young and from women—

The majority of the voters.
The script for fixing the nation is unfolding at the centre.

Until the moment comes to fix the fixers themselves,
The trio stands well positioned
To fix the nation from the nation’s centre.
