TSC Deploys Senior Officers to Garissa After Killing of Teacher

By Mandere Onyinkwa

The Teachers Service Commission has moved swiftly to respond to the killing of teacher Stephen Vundi Musili in Garissa County, an attack believed to have been carried out by Al-Shabaab militants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission announced that the security and safety of teachers across the country is now being handled within a multi-agency framework involving key government institutions and security agencies.

Senior officers have already been dispatched to Garissa to meet with teachers, assess the situation on the ground, and provide the necessary support to those affected.

The Commission condemned the murder in the strongest terms, describing it as a heinous and cowardly act that not only robbed a young teacher of his life but also undermined the right to education, peace, and security for both teachers and learners.

It urged teachers nationwide to remain calm, assuring them that the matter is receiving urgent attention.

At the same time, the Commission appealed to host communities, religious groups, and society at large to stand with teachers who continue to serve with courage and dedication in all corners of the country.

Kisii Press Club reported on Monday that Mr. Musili, who joined the Commission in January 2025, was stationed at Hulugho Primary School in Garissa.

His body was flown to Nairobi and preserved at Chiromo Funeral Home.

The incident has been described as a grave blow to education and national security, echoing calls for stronger protection of teachers working in volatile regions.

On behalf of the teaching fraternity, the Commission extended its deepest condolences to Mr. Musili’s family, relatives, colleagues, and learners, acknowledging the profound grief caused by his death.

The tragedy has sparked a renewed national commitment to protect educators, with the government and the Commission pledging to ensure that teachers can continue their work without fear, safeguarding the future of Kenya’s children.
