Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has announced that plans are underway to restore the county’s scholarships programme targeting bright but needy students.

Speaking on Friday at Rianyamage in Magwagwa Ward during the burial of Mama Alice Kwamboka Bikani, the Governor said concerns previously raised by the Controller of Budget and other oversight agencies regarding the county’s mandate to support secondary school scholarships have been addressed.

“We are working on clear modalities of awarding scholarships to vulnerable but bright students. Our plan is to start with at least eight students from each of our 20 wards,” Governor Nyaribo said.

He noted that while the Constitution places early childhood education and technical and vocational training under county governments, supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds is critical to ensuring inclusive access to education.

Governor Nyaribo further said the county has rolled out digital learning programmes in more than 200 schools, with plans underway to expand the initiative to all 408 ECDE centres across Nyamira County.

The programme, he added, is complemented by the provision of a fortified cup of uji to learners.

The Governor urged residents to remain patient as his administration implements development projects in phases across various sectors.

“It is not realistic to implement all projects at once, but I can assure you that projects under different sectors are ongoing,” he said.

On infrastructure, Governor Nyaribo said road improvement works using county machinery are in progress, with tractors deployed in three groups across several wards.

He also revealed that the county government is in talks with a foreign development partner to enhance access to clean water in the region.

In the health sector, the Governor assured residents of uninterrupted medical supplies, disclosing that the county is procuring drugs worth Sh200 million to equip public health facilities.

“There will be no drug shortages in our hospitals,” he said.

The Governor was accompanied by County Secretary Jack Magara, County Executive Committee Members Grace Nyamongo (Roads), Bernard Maina (Trade), Peris Mong’are (Agriculture), Donald Mogoi (Health), and Jones Omwenga (Finance).

Chief of Staff Jones Bitange, several chief officers, and other county officials also accompanied the governor.
