University students and youth leaders from across Kenya have formed a national platform to support Eliud Owaloâs 2027 presidential bid.
Dubbed the âFriends of Eliud Owalo Universities Chapterâ, the outfit is will be advocating for what they term Kenyaâs âThird Liberation: Economic Liberation.â
The group emphasizes the role of youth in national development, arguing that young people under 35, who make up 75% of the population, have long been marginalized.
âWe are not just âleaders of tomorrow.â We are the present that is happening right now,â the statement reads.
âWhen youth are empowered, innovation rises, enterprise grows, and national progress becomes inevitable.â
The youth platform outlines a vision in which young Kenyans move from being casual labourers to business owners through value chain reforms in agriculture, fisheries, ICT, and creative industries.
They cited Owaloâs record as ICT Cabinet Secretary, including the creation of digital hubs and the distribution of digital devices to educational institutions, as proof of his commitment to youth empowerment.
âThese are not promises, these are results that show what Owalo does when he is entrusted with responsibility,â the statement adds.
The group also highlighted Owaloâs proposed tax and debt reforms, including removing digital taxes for youth, halving internet access costs, and reducing income tax from 35% to 20%.
They praised his commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and forensic recovery of misappropriated public funds.
âOur declaration is clear,â the youth wrote.
âThe Third Liberation liberates youth from being boda riders to becoming boda passengers headed to bigger hustles; from loaders in warehouses to warehouse owners; from spectators to owners.â
The youth say they will organize across campuses and counties to build a national movement focused on economic opportunity and ownership, not tokenism.
