The National Police Service (NPS) has taken disciplinary action against six senior officers following a disturbing CCTV incident recorded at a pool table venue in Nandi Hills.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Office of the Inspector General said the action followed the emergence of the video, which prompted an immediate investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).
“The National Police Service immediately directed the Internal Affairs Unit to conduct an exhaustive investigation,” the statement said.
The Inspector General accepted the IAU’s recommendations and ordered immediate administrative action against officers in charge of key police units within the affected area. Those affected include the Sub-County Police Commander for Tinderet, the Officer Commanding Station for Songoh, the Officer Commanding Station for Nandi Hills, and the officers in charge of RDU, GSU and ASTU camps at Songoh.
According to the NPS, the decision to target local commanders was deliberate and aimed at reinforcing accountability at the command level.
“This action deliberately focuses on local commanders to ensure they are held fully accountable for all conduct within their jurisdictions. There will be no tolerance for such misconduct,” the statement read.
The police service expressed regret over the incident and conveyed its sympathies to the victims, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and lawful conduct among officers.
“The NPS deeply regrets the incident at Nandi Hills and extends its sympathies to the victims,” the statement said, adding that all illegal acts would be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
The Inspector General also reminded officers of their responsibility as custodians of public safety, security and property, stressing that professionalism and responsibility must be upheld at all times.
The National Police Service said further action would be guided by the outcome of ongoing processes, as it seeks to restore public confidence and uphold discipline within the service.
