Bobasi Sub-county has received a major boost in security following the official opening of the Igare Police Station, a move set to enhance service delivery, community policing, and crime prevention.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, National Government- Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Chairman Olago Aluoch urged residents to work closely with police officers, emphasizing that they should be viewed as partners rather than figures to fear.
“Service to Kenyans is key. Residents should share information on insecurity with the police, confident that it will be treated confidentially and acted upon,” Aluoch said.
Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui noted that Igare is now the 35th police station in the county, which also has 32 police posts and 23 patrol bases.
“This modern facility will allow us to serve the community better. I thank the government and local leaders for this support,” he said, while cautioning residents against drug and alcohol abuse, which often fuels crime.

Regional Police Commander Everlyn Gisiri Nyamoanga said the station will improve security response and urged residents to join efforts in addressing social challenges, including substance abuse, gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, and sexual offenses.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat thanked NG-CDF and Bobasi MP Hon. Innocent Obiri for supporting police infrastructure, highlighting that public cooperation is critical to reducing crime.
He announced that the station will receive a police vehicle to improve patrols and warned youths against being used for political or criminal activities.
Obiri expressed gratitude for the new facility, saying it demonstrates the government’s commitment to public safety and development.
“This station will serve our people effectively and enhance peace in Bobasi,” he said.
