Safaricom, through its M-PESA brand, has announced a KSh 10 million sponsorship package for the upcoming HSBC SVNS2 Rugby Sevens Tournament, set to take place at Nyayo National Stadium on 14–15 February 2026.
As the official technology partner, Safaricom will provide a fully equipped media centre, seamless internet connectivity across key areas, and communication support including devices and airtime to ensure smooth coordination and coverage of the global event.
Fans will also enjoy exclusive M-PESA rewards and discounts during the tournament.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa commended the Kenya Rugby Union for securing hosting rights.
“As Safaricom, we are proud to be part of this journey. Beyond supporting Shujaa and the Lionesses with reliable salaries and allowances, we want fans to stay connected on our strong and reliable network, while empowering journalists with a world-class media centre for seamless coverage,” he said.
Fans attending the matches will benefit from special offers via the M-PESA App, including 25% discounts on flights, bus bookings, and cab services between 14–16 February.
Customers spending KSh 5,000 on trips and flight bookings will receive a 25% discount, while Little cab users spending KSh 250 will get KSh 100 back.
This support builds on Safaricom’s wider investment in Kenyan rugby.
M-PESA is currently the official sponsor of the national sevens teams, Shujaa and the Lionesses, under a two-year partnership worth over KSh 100 million.
The deal covers player allowances, medical insurance, airtime, and financial literacy programmes.
Kenya’s Shujaa and Lionesses will compete against elite opposition as they aim for promotion back to HSBC SVNS Division 1.
The men’s teams include Kenya, USA, Uruguay, Germany, Belgium, and Canada, while the women’s competition features Kenya, Brazil, Spain, China, South Africa, and Argentina.
Kenya Lionesses captain Sheila Chajira expressed excitement ahead of the home tournament.
“We are truly thrilled to compete on home soil. This tournament means a great deal to us, and we are ready to give it our all. To our sponsors, thank you for your continued support. To our fans, we invite you to come out in large numbers and cheer us on as we aim to make history,” she said.
